Hey Everyone! Happy Friday - we are back with another member spotlight featuring a lady who has launched a thousand Wodify pics and a hashtag in her honor. Yep, you got it - the one and only Jackie McCarthy! Before #fontanaing was a thing, Jackie was practicing her Oly lifts, running half marathons for charities (check out Team RWB - a lot of us love working with this amazing group), and being a huge part of what makes CFSC not just a box, but a community. She's always inviting friends to hang out, grab some food (or drinks!), and check out concerts. She and Dave just recently tied the knot and had an amazing honeymoon - so next time you see her, ask her about it and try to hide your jealousy in your snow boots and winter jacket! We are so grateful for everything Jackie does and how hard she works - girl doesn't stop and keeps getting better! Without further ado, let's get to know more about the lovely Jackie McCarthy ...
Hey there! Where are you from?
- Born in Washington DC but grew up in Waynesburg, PA
What do you do for a living?
-I'm a Research Accountant at UPMC
How long have you been doing CrossFit?
-It will be exactly 3 years on February 26th---I will remember this day forever!
Tell us about your athletic history…
-I played softball and volleyball most of my life until college which is when I began running. I've ran various races such as multiple half marathons and even one full marathon. The full marathon was one of my greatest accomplishments. As I was in need for a change and bored with my workout routine I tried CrossFit and have been hooked ever since.
What brought you to CrossFit St. Clair?
-Like many people at the gym, our old gym closed and most of us stuck together to move onto CFSC. Although it was bittersweet I am very grateful for the change to bring me here and the new friends I've made.
What’s your favorite way to sweat?
-Long endurance based workouts, I love me a good 20+ min AMRAP
-spaghetti and/or seafood
Favorite movie & book?
-I love action related military movies/books so one of my favorites would have to be Lone Survivor
Favorite music to work out to?
-Coach Adam's playlist especially The National Anthem and Frank Sinatra haha but honestly I can listen to anything that's upbeat and keeps me moving. I really like the 90s and the 00s songs/playlists. Andy's pm class music is good for this.
When you aren’t working or working out, where can we find you?
-Well when my husband(still weird to say) Dave McCarthy isn't at the gym which doesn't leave much time for me (haha) I am spending time with him, family and friends. Dave and I also love to cook/eat so you can find us in the kitchen trying new recipes or out trying new restaurants.
How has CrossFit changed you?
-First off, I'm in the best shape of my life. CrossFit has changed my body and health for the better and I couldn't be happier with my progress. Second, it has improved me mentally; my mind is stronger and I'm more confident than ever before. It has taken my body beyond limits I never thought were possible or would have tried before CrossFit. Lastly, it helps me with stress which in return makes me happier. CrossFit has become my favorite stress reliever.
What do you love most about CrossFit St. Clair?
-Coaches, people, and programming. Every coach at this gym cares about each individual and will help you reach your goals no matter what they may be. They are always available to talk about your goals and to help improve your technique. The people are the reason that I keep coming back. I've made lifelong friends through CFSC whom I consider my second family. Lastly, the OPEX programming is top of the line. I have never been in better shape and still improving daily even after 3 years of CrossFit.
What 3 words would people use to describe you?
-Emotional (I could cry on command), loving & dependable
Any mantra, favorite quote, or words to live by?
-"Life is too short to wake up in the morning with regrets. So, love the people who treat you right and forget about the ones who don't. And believe that everything happens for a reason, if you get a chance-take it; if it changes your life-let it. Nobody said that it would be easy, they just promised it would be worth it."
-"Don't let your thoughts run away with you."
