Hello everyone and happy holiday weekend!!!! We are back from our little break with another celebration of a special person here at CFSC. She started in POWL and Dabbled in group fitness. We saw her potential for great things in the CrossFit program and luckily she accepted and has never looked back. She's the girl who always has a smile on her face, tons of weight on the bar, and dancing during the strength portion of the class. Her name is Jenna and she was one of the very first members of CFSC. So before we WOD with Warriors or Murph out on Monday, let's take a second and get to know Ms. Caputo better than we already do.
1. Hey there! Where are you from?
I grew up in Greentree, PA so not too far from where I live now in Bridgeville. I went to college in Cleveland, OH, and spent a few years in Shadyside, OH. I found my way back to the Burgh about 2 and a half years ago.
2. What do you do for a living?
I am a chemical engineer. I do manufacturing support for a company that makes polymer foams.
3. How long have you been doing CrossFit?
2 years this April
4. Tell us about your athletic history…
I played softball from 6 years old until I was 16. I also played volleyball in middle school and high school. Then in college, I switched it up and joined an Indian fusion dance team. I think can still bhangra a little ;-)
5. What brought you to CrossFit St. Clair?
Back in Shadyside, OH, I was really in to plain old weightlifting (POWL) as we like to call it, and into running and spinning. When I moved to back to Pittsburgh, Crossfit St. Clair didn't exist...it was still just St. Clair Fitness. My boyfriend, Bret, was a POWLer at St. Clair Fitness (and still is!) So I joined the gym and did lifting and running and some group fitness classes. A few months later, Crossfit St. Clair was born. And a few months after that, Josh Mac finally convinced me to give it a shot. After my free trial class, I bought a 10 class punch card. By my 4th class, I had signed up for a membership, and I've been hooked ever since!!
It's been wonderful to watch the gym grow from a handful of members to the big crew we've got today!!
6. What’s your favorite way to sweat? (Activity/Movement/Sport)
I love classic lifts like bench press, back squats, and deadlifts! But gymnastics movements have definitely grown on me since I've been getting some special help mastering those from our 5 star coaches!
7. Favorite food?
This is so hard because I love food in general. I think I have to go with fruit though, especially strawberries! But I can also put away some serious amounts of chips & salsa, chicken fingers, and cookies.
8. Favorite movie?
I'm not a big movie watcher (Just ask Kevin K. and Mike P. - I get a grand total of 0 of their movie references :-( ). But some of the movies I like the most are The Sandlot, Anastasia, The Lion King, and the 1995 version of Romeo and Juliet.
9. Favorite book?
Crime and Punishment by Dostoyevski
10. Favorite music to work out to?
2000s hip hop. Also EDM - there's a good beat, but I can kind of zone out to it. But I can work out to anything as long as it's not too slow.
11. When you aren’t working or working out, where can we find you?
At a wedding!!!
Lol between 2015 and 2016, my boyfriend and I will have gone to 14 weddings, so every time someone asks what my plans are, I'm going to a wedding/bachelorette party/shower that day.
But in all seriousness, I like hanging out with my boyfriend, my friends - including my wonderful CFSC buds, and my family. I love being outside, going out for good food and drinks, and dancing, just to name a few! So at those weddings, you'll find me on the dance floor!
12. How has CrossFit changed you?
Crossfit has enhanced my life in so many ways. I've met so many amazing people, and made great friends that I love to be with at the gym, and in the rest of my life.
It has also made me much stronger, more flexible, and in overall better shape - I can do things I never even thought of doing before - like handstand pushups and clean and jerks! I feel so much healthier and more confident at the gym and in the rest of my life. I am also more willing to take on new challenges, physical or otherwise, because I have a much better appreciation for what my body and mind are capable of!
13. What do you love most about CrossFit St. Clair?
"I just like hanging out with you guys!" I once wrote that on the wall under "Why are you here?" Andy teases me about that, but it's true. I look forward to coming to the gym everyday because I get to see my friends! Everyone is so fun and nice and encouraging - you guys are my 2nd family!
But of course, I cannot forget our fabulous coaches and programming. I have grown so much as an athlete in the past few years, and it's thanks to our coaches! Each one of them is amazing in their own different way, and they all care about the gym members so much, and take the time to work with you to help you get better. You guys are the best. Thank you for all that you do!!
14. What 3 words would people use to describe you?
Well this could really go either way depending on who you ask! But let's go with: caring, efficient, honeybadger
