Hello Everyone!! We're back and we have a good one for ya. She is part of a very small, yet elite group of athletes, who frequent the 8:30am hour. She's all class and she works her butt off in the gym, whether it's gymnastics, a long endurance grind, OLY lifts, or going HAM on the assault bike. We are very happy to shine a bright light on a great person. Her name is Elizabeth Huzjak and we think she's awesome! She was dragged in here by a friend 2 years ago and we haven't been able to scare her away yet (even with Tonya Harding lurking in the shadows).
1. Hey there! Where are you from?
I grew up in southeastern Michigan in a suburb of Detroit. After graduating from Michigan State University I moved to Chicago. I lived there for 17 years (got married there and had my 4 girls there). But we moved to Pittsburgh in the fall of 2013 and now it has quickly become home for us.
2. What do you do for a living?
I am a part time marketing research analyst. I work from home for a company in Chicago. But primarily I'm a stay at home mom.
3. How long have you been doing CrossFit?
I have been doing crossfit for about a year and a half. I started at CFSC after my youngest child was in school all day and I could fit a regular fitness routine into my schedule again.
4. Tell us about your athletic history…
I was a gymnast and a cheerleader in high school and played travel softball. I have run lots of 5ks and half marathons and one full marathon.
5. What brought you to CrossFit St. Clair?
Shout out to Hallie Lundon here! She convinced me to try crossfit with her and the rest is history.
6. What are you currently working on in the gym?
Those elusive DUs!!!! Why can I string together 10 one day and barely be able to do even one the next??? And of course snatches. And overall strength. And endurance. Oh, the list goes on and on.
7. Favorite food?
Italian and Mexican. And I have a major sweet tooth.
8. Favorite movie?
I don't have a particular favorite, but any 1980s John Hughes movie will hook me in. And - random fact - I was an extra in the movie The Last of the Mohicans.
9. Favorite book?
I don't often get the chance, but I love to read. Some favorites are: The Fault in Our Stars, This is Where I Leave You, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, All the Light We Can Not See, Gone Girl, The Other Boleyn Girl, The Help, Pillars of the Earth and The Girl on the Train
10. Favorite music to work out to?
Really anything with a good beat works for me. But my playlist includes Eminem, NeonTrees, OneRepublic, The Killers, Lenny Kravitz, Imagine Dragons, Jay Z, Nelly, Green Day, Usher and Train. Random, I know.
11. When you aren’t working or working out, where can we find you?
On the sideline of one of my kids soccer, basketball or lacrosse games. Or driving a carpool to one of their practices. Or in my laundry room, of course.
12. How has CrossFit changed you?
I've met a lot of great people since joining the gym. Being new to Pittsburgh when I started, I really appreciated this network. And I like having class as part of my routine. It's a great feeling of accomplishment. Plus I'm so much stronger than I used to be.
13. What do you love most about CrossFit St. Clair?
Definitely the members, the coaches and the camaraderie. Everyone is so supportive and encouraging. I love seeing everybody's different strengths and areas of improvement. There are days when I feel awesome at the end of the WOD and days when I want to quit. But it's the people that always brings me back.
14. What 3 words would people use to describe you?
Conscientious, reliable and kind (I hope)
15. Any mantra, favorite quote, or words to live by?
"Everyone you meet is fighting a battle you know nothing about. Be kind. Always."
